The Waitangi Tribunal is a permanent commission of inquiry established under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.

The Tribunal inquires into and makes recommendations on claims brought by Māori that allege the Crown has breached te Tiriti o Waitangi - Treaty of Waitangi through:

• policies
• actions
• omissions.

The Tribunal is currently running a kaupapa (thematic) inquiry programme into nationally significant issues affecting Māori.
