National Policy Statement for Indigenous Biodiversity: Information for farmers and growers

The National Policy Statement for Indigenous Biodiversity (NPSIB) is an essential part of our response to biodiversity decline in Aotearoa. The NPSIB provides direction to councils on how to identify, maintain and protect our indigenous biodiversity.

Indigenous biodiversity has many on-farm benefits; from preventing erosion, to improving soil and increasing the resilience of farm systems.

The NPSIB sets a more consistent approach to identify and manage indigenous biodiversity, regardless of where it is found. We’ve worked with landowners, particularly farmers, and councils to develop the NPSIB.

This information sheet should be read alongside the general summary and the NPSIB.
