Turning plastic waste into pellets

Recycle South processes all recycling from around the province, including the kerbside recycling collections for Southland District Council and Invercargill City Council. It is leading the way in recycling farm plastics with its bale wrap and agricultural plastic recycling.

With support from the Ministry’s Waste Investments funding, Recycle South purchased a pelletiser that turns agricultural plastic such as 200-litre drums, many of the containers used on farm, and bale wrap into resin pellets.

The resin pellets are categorised by quality and strength before they are manufactured into new plastic products.

Recycle South also took the initiative to purchase a shredder with support from the Waste Investments funding to help process contaminated wool fadges from Hawke’s Bay, following the devastating impact of Cyclone Gabrielle.
