In 2022, the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention adopted a decision that transboundary movement of all e-waste will require consent from the importing country.
Currently in New Zealand, prior informed consent is required to import or export hazardous e-waste. The Government is proposing to introduce regulations so that prior informed consent is also required to import or export non-hazardous e-waste under the Basel Convention.
