Transboundary movement control of all e-waste under the Basel Convention Consultation document

This consultation document sought feedback on proposed regulations to better manage the international trade in e-waste.

In 2022, the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention adopted a decision that transboundary movement of all e-waste will require consent from the importing country.

Currently in New Zealand, prior informed consent is required to import or export hazardous e-waste. The Government is proposing to introduce regulations so that prior informed consent is also required to import or export non-hazardous e-waste under the Basel Convention.
