Every year New Zealand measures about one fifth of the permanent sample plots in the Land Use Carbon Analysis System (LUCAS) national planted forest inventory administered by the Ministry for the Environment. Data from these measurements are used to estimate the amount of carbon that is stored in planted forests in New Zealand’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
This report provides an analysis of amount of carbon stored in planted forests and how this amount is changing over time, using data collected up to 2022. Plot measurements undertaken in 2021 and 2022 are analysed for the first time in this report.
