The Ministry for the Environment commissioned this pilot study to identify if plastics in waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE, or e-waste) contained brominated flame retardants (BFRs). E-waste containing BFEs is subject to the export requirements of the Basel Convention. The results of this pilot study are presented as an indicative finding to better understand the implications for the environmentally sound management of these wastes.
