Final policy decisions to implement amendments to the Basel Convention to better manage the international trade in plastic waste

The Cabinet paper seeks agreement to amend the Imports and Exports (Restrictions) Prohibition Order (No 2) 2004 to require permits for imports and exports of most mixed plastic waste. These amendments will enable New Zealand to meet new international obligations for the trade in plastic waste under the Basel Convention which come into effect globally on 1 January 2021.
