Text description of figure

This map of New Zealand colour codes surface water catchments according to the proportion of mean annual low flow that is currently allocated (4 categories from “1-5% allocated” to 21-50% allocated”). A range of percentage allocated of mean annual flow exists in both the North and South Island. Areas of high allocation (21-50%), occur in the eastern regions of Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury and Otago regions. There is no data for many catchments.
