Power in partnership

From creation to consumption, the food industry plays a massive role in our economy and everyday life. It also contributes heavily to the emissions we create. Meanwhile the value of our food is being lost or under-utilised.

A lost economic opportunity

Wasted food in New Zealand is a lost economic opportunity. It is costing the economy between NZ$1.17 to 2billion per year. With MfE’s support, XLabs seeks to tackle these issues head-on by educating businesses on how they can make a positive change towards a circular economy.

A circular economy means we keep resources in use for as long as possible. It is a shift away from the wasteful ‘take–make–dispose’ system that we are all too used to.

Power of working in partnership

MfE is proud to partner with Circularity’s XLabs, their award-winning circular economy programme for businesses looking to make a positive impact. In Auckland alone, closing the knowledge gap for implementing a circular economy will be worth up to $8 billion.

By supporting partners like Circularity, MfE is driving innovation that supports policy direction across multiple sectors and helping kiwi businesses prepare for a circular future.

Welcome to XLabs
