Fair Food has been rescuing quality food since 2011

Fair Food was set up in West Auckland in 2011 to prevent people going hungry and food from being wasted.
More than 10 years later, the charity has expanded considerably to meet this critical mission to feed people and not landfill.
In 2021, with funding from the Waste Minimisation Fund, Fair Food was able to buy a refrigerated truck and expand its operations across the north-west of Auckland. It is predicted that this partnership with MfE will help divert 145 tonnes of food during the first year and get to communities in need through a network of over 40 local charities.
In addition to recovering food, Fair Food trains and supports hundreds of volunteers each month that sort fresh produce and share tips on waste minimisation.

Reducing food waste has positive environmental, social, and economic outcomes. Nine per cent of New Zealand's biogenic methane emissions and four per cent of our total greenhouse gas emissions are from food and organic waste. This includes emissions in the food production process and from the decomposition of food waste in landfill.
