In the past, our native birds had plenty of wild bush to find food, build nests and hide from predators in. Nowadays, there is much less undeveloped land. This leaves the birds more exposed to predators like possums, stoats and ferrets.
The Forest Bridge Trust is creating a way for birds to travel safely between the Kaipara Harbour and the Pacific Ocean. They are linking up small parcels of bush to create a safe passage for birds from one coast to another. So far, they have secured more than 33.7 hectares of bush and wetland.
The trust also works with local school children to control introduced pests.
