It is estimated that about 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic waste are floating around in our oceans.
That trash can harm sea creatures and destroy marine ecosystems.
Since 2002, Sea Cleaners has been working to preserve New Zealand’s coastline and protect our marine life.
They’re doing this by removing tonnes of rubbish from our waterways and educating the public on their role in waste creation.
Sea Cleaners partner with charities, schools, community groups, iwi and corporates. So far they have co-ordinated more than 150,000 volunteer hours of clean-up in coastal areas.
These efforts have removed about seven million litres of rubbish from our busiest harbours and oceans – enough to fill 230 shipping containers.
