The panel assesses applications to the Contaminated Sites and Vulnerable Landfills Fund (CSVLF).
The panel is made up of:
- contaminated land specialists, including suitably qualified and experienced practitioners (SQEPs)
- staff from regional councils, unitary authorities and territorial authorities
- a representative from the Ministry for the Environment.
Current external panel members are:
- Technical experts: Chris Hillman, Graeme Proffitt, Rod Lidgard, Simon Beardmore, Simon Hunt and Timothy Dee
- Council representatives: Josh Evans, Michelle Begbie and Nicola Bull
For each, we will draw on some of the panel members to assess applications to the Fund.
Panel members will individually review and score eligible applications to the CSVLF.
Following the individual review process, the panel will meet to discuss applications, confirm scoring and make recommendations on each application.
The Ministry will consider recommendations from the panel and make final funding decisions.
To be on the panel you must have experience in contaminated land management and remediation and/or coastal processes, and be:
- employed by a regional council, unitary authority or territorial authority, or
- a suitably qualified and experienced practitioner (SQEP).
Please note, only SQEPs will be renumerated for their time.
The panel will meet every two months, with the first meeting expected to take place in February 2025. Further meetings will take place in April, June, August, October and December.
We require each panel member to attend around two meetings per year. We will provide members with all applications and materials required to assess applications in advance of these meetings. Please let us know if you will not be available for any meeting dates.
Applications are open for council representatives.
Applications close on 30 June 2025.
We are looking for additional council representatives to be on the CSVLF assessment panel. If you work at a Territorial Authority, Unitary Authority or Regional Council and have experience in contaminated sites and/or vulnerable landfills, we would like to hear from you.
If you would like an application form or have any questions, please reach out to us at CSVLF@mfe.govt.nz.
