Project summary

To demolish an overbridge across Wakefield Street and redevelop a site at the corner of Jervois Quay and Wakefield Street, Wellington by: 

  • removing a temporary building used by Royal New Zealand Ballet
  • demolishing other existing infrastructure
  • constructing and operating an eight-storey mixed-use building up to 39 metres high (including a plant room on the roof), for educational and cultural activities, and retail and commercial tenancies
  • providing open spaces, including a pedestrian link from Cuba Street to the waterfront and an internal pedestrian cross-site link through the building
  • constructing or installing infrastructure or structures associated with the project
  • establishing a loading zone within the Wakefield Street road reserve.

Reasons for decision

The Minister for the Environment considers it is more appropriate for the project to go through standard consenting processes under the Resource Management Act 1991.
