Emissions reductions

Aotearoa New Zealand has long-term climate targets: all greenhouse gases, except methane emissions from waste and agriculture biological processes, are to reach net zero by 2050. To get us there, we have set limits on emissions we can produce over time and have long-term plans to keep us on track.

Our first Emissions Reduction Plan lays out targets and actions we’ll take to meet those targets. These will be across every part of government and every sector of the economy from transport, energy, building and construction, waste, agriculture and forestry.

Our climate future

The ways we eat, travel, and consume all produce greenhouse gases. These emissions can be trapped in the atmosphere for decades or even centuries and fuel global warming.

We can all individually and collectively make changes to reduce emissions.
