This report outlines the updated annual mean sea-level series for the 2016 to 2018 years for six long-term, sea-level gauge sites around New Zealand and associated trends in monitored sites since around 1900.
This report outlines the updated annual mean sea-level series for the 2016 to 2018 years for six long-term, sea-level gauge sites around New Zealand and associated trends in monitored sites since around 1900.
Annual mean sea level measures the relative sea-level rise at each location relative to the adjacent land mass. It is influenced by both vertical land movement (uplift or subsidence) and absolute changes in ocean levels.
This report shows that climate change is generating an increasing rate of rise in the mean sea level around New Zealand that underlies the climate variability.
