Spatial modelling of lake water quality state Incorporating monitoring data for the period 2020 to 2024

This report details the generation of model-based predictions of water quality state for New Zealand’s 4,498 lakes larger than 1 hectare for 2020 to 2024. The predictions use measured lake water quality data collected by regional councils and unitary authorities, and flow, climate, catchment and other data and metadata.

It includes summaries of predictions for measures of bacteria (Escherichia coli), sediment (clarity), and nutrients and nutrient-enrichment (chlorophyll-a, nitrogen, phosphorus, and trophic level index).

The report supports the use and interpretation of these predictions for national environmental reporting.
