This report records and provides details of the results of the 10 September 2025 auction of New Zealand Units. It provides assurance the auction was conducted properly and in accordance with the applicable rules and laws.
The auctioning of New Zealand Units is a component of the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS). Its purpose is to align the supply of Units in the NZ ETS with New Zealand’s climate change targets. The first auction took place on 17 March 2021.
The Ministry for the Environment is acting in the role of an interim auction monitor. This role is performed independently of the Ministry's policy team who are responsible for developing the regulations for the auction monitor and auctioning.
