New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme interim auction monitor report: 15 March 2023 auction

This report records and provides details on the results of the 15 March 2023 auction of New Zealand Units and provides assurance that the auction was conducted properly and in accordance with the applicable rules and laws.

The Government has introduced auctioning of New Zealand Units to align the supply of Units in the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme with New Zealand’s climate change targets. The first auction took place on 17 March 2021.

Until an independent auction monitor is appointed, the Minister for Climate Change has agreed the Ministry for the Environment will act as interim auction monitor. This role is performed independently of the Ministry for the Environment policy team who are responsible for developing the regulations for the auction monitor and auctioning.
