New Zealand Construction and Demolition Waste Baseline and Tracking Methodology Report

In 2024, the Ministry for the Environment commissioned Beca to produce a national baseline for the generation, diversion and disposal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste.

While insufficient data was available to produce a national baseline for C&D waste generation and diversion, the report was able to quantify the scale of C&D waste disposal at a national level. The report’s C&D waste disposal findings focus on Class 1–4 disposal facilities. The report provides estimated annual tonnages and composition breakdowns for C&D waste going into each class of facility.

In addition to providing a national C&D waste disposal baseline, the report presents several recommendations for increasing the scale and accuracy of C&D waste data reporting.
