Land fragmentation environmental reporting indicator – technical methods for analysis from 2002 to 2019

This report documents a method for national analyses of land fragmentation for consistent environmental reporting. It also quantifies changes over time in the frequency distribution of different size parcel categories as an indicator of land fragmentation, and quantifies the impact of land fragmentation on the areal availability of highly productive land resource.

Land fragmentation is any division of a land resource available for primary production, such as through subdivision and residential development, including the expansion of urban areas.
