This report presents a literature review of carbon estimates for wetland vegetation in New Zealand. It applies findings of the literature review to estimate above- and below-ground biomass carbon for non-forest vegetated wetlands, one of the land-use classes reported in New Zealand’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
The report also explores an approach for subdividing the non-forest vegetated wetlands land use into coastal and inland subcategories, as required for the implementation of the 2013 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change supplementary guidance for reporting on anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and removals from wetlands.
