Transitioning to a low-emissions and climate-resilient future: Aotearoa New Zealand's long-term low-emissions development strategy

Aotearoa New Zealand is committed to taking action on climate change and contributing to global efforts to limit average temperature rise to 1.5˚C.

This document has a dual function.

It reinforces our commitment to the Paris Agreement by acting as the first part of our long-term low-emissions development strategy. It does this by providing a high-level overview of how we will achieve our long-term mitigation goals and was communicated to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change during COP26.

It also serves as the first part of our emissions reduction plan. It does this by setting out our national circumstances and contextualising the detailed policies and strategies that will be published in May 2022.
