This is a request for Official Information under the Official Information Act 1982 in relation to MfE’s appointment of a rōpū to guide a new Waste Strategy for New Zealand according to mātauranga Māori. We request the following information:
• In total, how many applications for the positions on the rōpū were received by MfE?
• Were potential candidates approached by MfE to solicit applications?
o If so, how many people were approached?
o Were Gannin Ormsby, Tamoko Ormsby, or Waimirirangi Ormsby (“the
Three”) approached by MfE?
o If the Three were approached by MfE, who recommended them?
 Provide relevant emails and documentation.
• Please provide the applications, resumes and cover letters of the Three.
• What were the proposals recommended by the rōpū?
• Provide the conceptual framework written by the rōpū, both the draft and the final document.
• Who recommended, and who signed off on, the appointments of the Three?
o Provide relevant emails and documentation containing information
that informed these decisions.
• How did the Three meet the criteria of ‘wide experience within the sector
of Māori waste minimisation’?
o Please answer for each individual.
• How many times did the rōpū meet?
