It is the first of what will be annual reporting on our various compliance monitoring and enforcement responsibilities under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008.
As well as enabling regulated communities to benchmark their compliance performance, the reporting will help stakeholders understand:
- how we work (eg, what we are focusing on and why)
- how compliance, monitoring and enforcement contributes to realising wider waste outcomes.
Effective compliance monitoring and enforcement is a key part of MfE’s journey to help the transition of Aotearoa New Zealand towards a circular low-emission economy.
It helps us to:
- achieve environmental outcomes
- ensure public confidence
- maintain a level playing field for regulated communities.
