Have your say and shape the emissions reduction plan

Aotearoa New Zealand is committed to taking action on climate change and transitioning to a low-emissions future that improves overall wellbeing.
Taking action is increasingly urgent. In Aotearoa, we are already seeing the effects of climate change. Average temperatures are increasing, sea levels are rising, and extreme weather is becoming more frequent and severe. These impacts are also being felt around the world.
In 2019, Parliament introduced the Zero Carbon Framework to manage our transition to a low-emissions future. This framework established our 2050 emissions reduction targets and the Climate Change Commission. It set in place a requirement for Government to set emissions budgets (five-yearly stepping stones to our 2050 targets) and emissions reduction plans, following advice from the Commission.
Our first emissions reduction plan (ERP) will be published by 31 May 2022.
This plan will set out the actions Aotearoa New Zealand will take to meet the first emissions budget and transition to a low-emissions future in a way that is achievable and affordable. We want to hear your views on what should be included in the plan.
The consultation will run until 24 November.
