Climate Change Commission’s advice on ETS settings

The Climate Change Commission has delivered its annual advice to the Government on the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) unit settings.

The Commission makes recommendations about unit volumes and price control settings based on its analysis of what’s required to meet emissions reduction goals.

The Government is required to annually align ETS limits and price control settings for units with emissions budgets, international climate targets under Paris and the 2050 target. The settings are for the five-year period ahead and help ETS participants plan.

The advice comes ahead of the Government’s annual consultation on ETS settings set to start in mid-2025.

This is the fourth time the Commission’s independent advice will inform annual settings decisions made by the Government.

Following public consultation, proposed changes to the ETS will be finalised by the end of September 2025.

You can see the Commission’s advice on its website.
