Climate Change Commission annual emissions monitoring report released

He Pou a Rangi - Climate Change Commission has released its annual monitoring report on emissions reductions, which assesses progress against the 2050 net zero target, emissions budgets and emissions reduction plans.

Monitoring report: Emissions reduction (July 2025) [Climate Change Commission]

Every year, the Climate Change Commission provides an independent analysis of how we’re progressing toward our climate change targets. This report is always released three months after the annual Greenhouse Gas Inventory is released.

This year’s report covers analysis on progress toward the 2050 target and the first three emissions budgets and progress toward implementing the first and second emissions reduction plans.

The annual emissions monitoring report is one of several regular touchpoints throughout the year that provides evidence of how we are tracking towards our targets.

The Government now has three months to consider and respond to the Commission’s report.
