Mohaka River water conservation order 2004

Water Conservation (Mohaka River) Order 2004 [New Zealand Legislation website]

• In October 1987, the Hawkes Bay Acclimatisation Society and Council of North Island Acclimatisation Societies applied for a water conservation order in respect of the Mohaka River. The application was made under the Water and Soil Conservation Act 1967.
• On 14 June 1988 the Minister for the Environment decided that the application should be heard as an application for a national water conservation order.
• A tribunal was appointed to hear and make recommendations on the application.
• The application was publicly notified on 6 May 1989 and received 123 submissions.
• The tribunal held a hearing and made its report and recommendations on 26 March 1990. It published the draft Order on 31 March 1990.
• Submissions were lodged with the Planning Tribunal in April and May 1990 and the tribunal commenced its inquiry. The hearing was held on 24 days between 30 September 1991 and 29 January 1992.
• The Planning Tribunal made its report and recommendations on 8 April 1992.
• The Water Conservation (Mohaka River) Order 2004 was made on 15 November 2004.
