Calculate your agricultural emissions

This calculator can provide you with a quick estimate of the greenhouse gases emitted and absorbed by your farm. It uses the same methods and emission factors as the Ministry's Measuring Emissions Guide 2025.

About this calculator

A standardised methodology for calculating on-farm emissions is now available. It's designed to make it easier for farmers and growers to accurately measure on-farm emissions (excluding sequestration).

The method can be used by the existing calculators farmers are already familiar with.

See New Zealand Farm Emissions Method (MPI) for more about the methodology.

Our current agricultural emissions calculator, which is based on our Measuring Emissions Guide 2025, is still available for farmers to use. Updates to our calculator and advice on measuring on-farm emissions will be available later in 2025.

See Measuring Emissions Guide 2025.

Using this calculator

This calculator is designed to help you understand your greenhouse gas footprint. It provides a simple approach to estimating greenhouse gas emissions from animals, manure management, and nitrogen fertiliser use on your farm, as well as the carbon sequestered in forests. It does not account for factors such as more emissions-efficient production methods.

Note: No record will be kept of the data you enter into the calculator. You can print or download your results from the results area of the calculator.
