The scope of this proactive release includes final advice regarding the update of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC1). It includes a Cabinet Paper, associated Cabinet Minutes and Ministry for the Environment briefings on the policy development towards the decision.
The advice references possible public consultation on updating NDC1, however, there was no statutory requirement to consult the general public. Engagement with the public on NDC1 has happened earlier including the government’s 2015 consultation prior to setting the current NDC and the Climate Change Commission’s consultation on its draft advice in early 2021.
