This document provides an early example of how National Policy Direction (NPD) could operate under New Zealand’s new planning system. NPD articulates the system's goals and is the mechanism through which the Government will set national priorities and provides direction to those preparing regional spatial plans and other planning instruments.
The illustrative NPD has been developed to support discussion and testing of the proposed approach before formal statutory consultation on the proposed NPD occurs in 2027.
