This report provides a summary of the results of air quality monitoring of fine particles (PM10 - particles less than 10 micron in diameter) in New Zealand from 1988 to 2001. Historical measurements of total suspended particles (TSP) over the period 1964 - 2000 (Auckland) and 1983 - 2001 (Hamilton) are also presented to analyse trends.

The report highlights that PM10 concentrations frequently breach the Ministry for the Environment's ambient air quality guideline value of 50 µg/m3 (24 hour average) in many areas, both rural and urban.
