Landfill Gas Management Final Report

This report examines the operation of landfill gas (LFG) management in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally, and sets out recommendations from Eunomia for a robust, transparent and effective LFG capture regulatory framework in New Zealand. The work also presents options to improve organic waste management that would reduce emissions from landfilling, and presents the results of modelling the estimated costs and benefits of making these changes.

This report and the supporting work programme were commissioned by the Ministry for the Environment in 2024 to aid in delivering waste actions under the second emissions reduction plan.
