This study reports on the use, recycling and disposal to landfill in New Zealand of articles containing brominated diphenyl ether (BDE) flame retardants. Certain BDEs are listed as POPs under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. The purpose of this study was to provide information on how BDEs were used in New Zealand, and to help the Ministry assess waste disposal options for BDE-containing wastes.
