This report, commissioned by the Ministry for the Environment, provides an updated cost-benefit analysis and economic impact assessment of the Jobs for Nature programme as at 30 June 2025.

Jobs for Nature primarily focused on delivering social, cultural, and environmental outcomes, it also generated significant economic benefits across Aotearoa New Zealand. 

It builds on previous analyses (2023 and 2024) and uses the latest information on project spend and outputs to assess the programme’s economic impact and cost-effectiveness.

The Jobs for Nature was a $1.18 billion programme which supported New Zealand’s recovery from COVID-19. It aimed to create 11,000 jobs and deliver lasting benefits for freshwater, biodiversity, climate, cultural values, and sustainable land use. The programme concluded in June 2025.
