Defining and assessing ecosystem collapse

This report reviews international approaches to defining and assessing ecosystem collapse, and examines how they could be applied in Aotearoa New Zealand within terrestrial, marine and freshwater domains.

The report recommends using the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Ecosystems framework to identify ecosystems most at risk, while highlighting the need for improved ecosystem mapping, monitoring and agreed assessment baselines.
