This technical report presents the development of a nationally consistent pilot surface water digital network, created through collaboration between regional and unitary councils, LINZ and Earth Sciences New Zealand.
The project developed and tested a largely automated process for generating and updating the network using a LiDAR-derived new Digital Elevation Model and nationally available geospatial datasets. The resulting pilot network provides a more accurate representation of New Zealand's freshwater systems.
