Request for information on asbestos management in Ministry buildings

We are writing to request your organisation’s assistance in providing information on asbestos management compliance. This is an important initiative to promote safety and transparency, and to better understand how public-sector portfolios are managing asbestos risks.

In addition to your obligations under the Official Information Act 1982 (Sections 12 & 15), we remind you of the applicable asbestos management regulations relevant to your jurisdiction:

• Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 (New Zealand)

Specifically, we seek confirmation of the following:

1. Total number of buildings owned or managed.
2. How many were constructed prior to 1 January 2000?
3. How many buildings have a current Asbestos Management Plan (AMP) in place?
4. Frequency of AMP reviews and updates.
5. Percentage of AMPs updated in the past 12 months.
