Farms that use synthetic nitrogen fertiliser on pasture (or any other grazed land) may be subject to synthetic nitrogen fertiliser regulations.

A limit of 190 kg per hectare per year on pasture came into effect on 1 July 2021. You need resource consent if this limit is exceeded.

For the 2021/22 year, the first year the regulations came into effect, around 4000 dairy farms submitted a synthetic nitrogen use report.
