Implementation a focus at COP 27

Climate Change Minister James Shaw is heading the New Zealand delegation at COP27 (Conference of the Parties) which is being held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from 6 to 18 November.

This is the largest international climate change conference of this year. The conference will focus on adaptation, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, climate finance for both adaptation and mitigation, and funding to avert, minimise and address loss and damage.

The national adaptation plan and emissions reduction plan form Aotearoa New Zealand’s first comprehensive climate change mitigation and adaptation response. New Zealand’s overarching priorities for COP27 are to ensure our Government’s climate initiatives are aligned with our international and domestic climate change objectives. We recognise the changing climate as a major issue for our communities and a high priority for Government.

Ministry for the Environment delegates will undertake negotiations to advance New Zealand’s priorities and objectives on a number of agenda items. Our New Zealand team will also join the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion in co-hosting a programme of events on issues of Pacific regional interest.
