Have your say on regulations for product stewardship of tyres and large batteries

We are seeking your feedback on proposed regulations for product stewardship of tyres and large batteries.

Used tyres and large batteries can be a source of fires and toxic emissions if not managed properly.

Regulated product stewardship will give manufacturers, sellers and users more responsibility for ensuring used tyres and large batteries do not end up in landfills or the environment.

A product stewardship fee would be charged at the time of purchase to cover collection and recycling at the end of a product’s life

The product stewardship schemes for tyres and large batteries have been co-designed with industry and other stakeholders to ensure they work for the people involved as well as the environment.

Decisions on the final content of the regulations will be made in 2022.

We will consult on the remaining priority products later in 2022 starting with farm wastes (agrichemicals and farm plastics) and refrigerants. The timing of consultation on wider e-waste and plastic packaging depends on the outcomes of the co-design processes for those products.
