Orders in Council

Since the severe weather events of early 2023, the Government has changed laws on a range of issues to help communities to recover. The mechanism being used to do this is secondary legislation called an Order in Council and is made under the SWERLA.

Orders in Council allow quick regulatory changes to respond to issues as they arise. They enable the Ministry for the Environment to amend legislation it is responsible for.
